tree cull for OUR Arboretum

Planning voted to endorse the cull of around 230 healthy trees from our Arboretum tonight 2nd December  despite pleas from around 1200 residents on a petition and from the woodlands trust. The original number were around 380 but very mysteriously dropped to 230 after a bit of questioning by those of us who have a real concern about cutting down trees that have taken so long to grow and contribute so much pleasure.
18 of the trees under consideration were planted in memory of loved ones in Walsall. No consultation as yet to those who do not know that these trees will be moved... will they survive the move?
1000 trees donated this week by the woodland trust were due to be planted today... The woodlands trust did not know the Council planned a tree cull... Those planted in this weather will die and if any attempt is made to move mature memorial trees these will also die.!
Those 'consulted' were about 60 locals around the park... this park is owned by the people of Walsall.. that is why there has been such activity on line petitions etc. I am sure the heritage lottery will be displeased to learn that walsall Council has not consulted the real users of the arboretum... the people of Walsall.
Surely a short delay for a few weeks to the tree cull to ensure the real owners of this park can have an opportunity to comment on the cutting down of 230 healthy trees in the 'jewel in the crown' of walsall.. our arboretum ( which means a park of trees!!)
Shame on walsall ... is there another agenda here????
please feel free to comment
